The Lord Alone

June 6, Tuesday of the 9th Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Tobit 2:9-14 and Mark 12:13-17

You are a truthful man. The one who shows coherence from his words to his deeds. That is how the Pharisees and Herodians described Jesus in today’s gospel. Though it is true, the statement came out in the context of a snare and a challenge because there was a hidden agenda.

Somehow, the exact words are said to Tobit in the first reading as a challenging question. However, Jesus and Tobit answered similarly, i.e., they did not focus on the words but on the situation. As if upon listening to their interlocutor, they both sang today's responsorial psalm by saying: “My heart is firm and trusting in the Lord alone.”

This is a good reminder of greed, selfishness, and showing off in this society. To be praised, to be acknowledged, and to make sure that others will know how valuable and honorable one is. Many mistakes, conflicts, and disputes happened in some communities, families, relationships, and places of work just because of the lack of such a disposition.

Today's readings invite a reappropriation of this attitude, which acknowledges that all we have is God’s. So, all glory is His.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
