Sent to Witness

December 14, Memorial of Saint John of the Cross, Priest and Doctor of the Church
Wednesday of the Third Week of Advent
Daily readings:  Isaiah 45:6c-8, 18,21c-25, Gospel: Luke 7:18b-23

John the Baptist ventured to send two of his disciples to ask Jesus: "Is Jesus the Messiah promised by God?" They were expecting an answer: "I am the Lord your God." (Ex 20:2). But Jesus emphasized it by saying, “Go and tell John what you see and hear.”

This shows that the faith that we profess—God's statement—is about the personal faith that we personally experience, faith that is born from our life experiences. God is present alone; we see (a sensory experience) and we hear (faith knowledge).

Thus, the faith that takes root within us becomes ours.

What's more, Jesus emphasized the word "go." This is our missionary duty. What we “see and hear” must be proclaimed and shared through testimony, both testimony in the form of words (kerygma) and testimony of daily life (martyria).

May we always bear witness to anyone in the simplest way possible in order to glorify God's name.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
