Standing Firm in Faith

Reflection Date: March 26, 2026 | Thursday of the Fifth Week of Lent
Daily Readings: Genesis 17:3-9; John 8:51-59

Children of God:
Good news from Pakistan!

In Asia, there is a small Catholic community in Pakistan often called the “Rome of Pakistan.”

This title refers to the city of Youhanabad in Lahore, one of the largest Christian communities in the country.

Catholics and other Christians live there as a minority in a predominantly Muslim nation.

Despite many challenges, their faith remained alive and vibrant.

Recently, the community celebrated 125 years of Catholic faith and witness.

Churches, schools, and ministries grew there through the dedication of missionaries and local believers.

The name “Rome of Pakistan” does not mean political power or wealth.

It points to a place where faith endured and the Church stood firm.

Just like Rome became a symbol of the Christian faith because of the witness of believers, this community in Pakistan became a symbol of courage and perseverance.

Their celebration reminded many people that faith can survive even in difficult environments.

Their story showed that belief in Christ continued to inspire hope and unity.

In the gospel story of John, Jesus spoke boldly about the promise of eternal life.

He said, “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death” (John 8:51).

His listeners reacted with confusion and anger. Some accused him of being possessed. Others questioned how he could claim such authority when even Abraham and the prophets died.

But Jesus continued speaking about his unique relationship with the Father.

He revealed a truth that shocked his listeners when he declared, “Before Abraham came to be, I AM” (John 8:58).

Because of this statement, some people picked up stones to throw at him.

What are our inspirations for today?

First, Faith in Jesus gives a life that death cannot destroy.

Jesus spoke about a life that went beyond physical death. When he said that those who keep his word would never see death, he pointed to eternal life.

His message reminded people that life with God did not end in the grave.

Many believers across the world trusted this promise.

Even today, many people feared death or uncertainty.

But Jesus invited us to see life differently. When we hold on to his word and live according to it, we share in a life that continues forever.

Second, Standing for truth sometimes brings opposition.

When Jesus spoke about who he truly was, many people could not accept it. His words challenged their understanding and their expectations. Instead of listening, some reacted with anger.

Throughout history, many believers experienced similar reactions. The Christian communities across the world in all generations also faced difficulties and discrimination.

Yet their faith remained strong because they believed in the truth of Christ.

As we reflect today, we ask ourselves: Do I believe that Jesus offers a life that continues beyond death? When my faith is challenged, do I remain firm or do I easily give up? In what ways can my daily actions show that I truly trust the word of Christ?

Children of God:
When we keep the word of Christ, we hold on to a hope that no hardship can take away.

Every day gives us a chance to live that faith with courage and trust.

Let us remain faithful even when the world questions our belief. Let us continue to stand firm in the life that Christ offers.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
