True Treasure

June 17, Friday,11th Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings:  2Kings 11;1-4,9-18,20, Gospel: Mathew 6;19-23

Our true treasure is Jesus, in whom our lives have meaning.

There was a beautiful painting in an art gallery in the museum. A few people passed by it in the morning, thinking it was nothing special. They found the colors not attractive. But when they returned to the painting after a few hours, they found it was special.

When asked, the director at the gallery told them that in the morning, when they passed by, the lights were not on, and so the colors did not come out attractively. But when the light was on, it showed its actual color and beauty.

Jesus said, "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven." that's how the treasures of the kingdom are. They may not be attractive at first glance, but the light of Christ makes them shine.

They may not be attractive in worldly terms. But looking at them through God’s eyes, they are beautiful and everlasting. Those eternal values cannot be destroyed.

It is important to note that the true treasure is not things of this world. Our earthly possessions can be destroyed by fire or flooding. Even a computer can crash. But our prize is secure.

The Lord reminds us not to set our hearts on treasures that appear to be shining but are not of value. But to set our hearts on precious treasures, even if they appear to be uncolorful in the beginning, is why Jesus said, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be."

Let us focus on Jesus, our true treasure, so that we, as true believers, will find our lives meaningful. If our focus is lost, whatever we find attractive in this world will be meaningless in the long run.

For if your eye is evil, it will fill you with darkness, and if the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness?

Let's let the light of Jesus shine into our lives to see what our natural treasures are.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
