The archbishop of Kuala Lumpur has extended a warm invitation to “those who have drifted from the Church” so they would come back into the fold this Jubilee Year.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia called on the faithful to always celebrate unity and friendship as the country celebrates National Day and Malaysia Day.

The Diocese of Penang in Malaysia has opened the cause of beatification and canonization for Sybil
Kathigasu, a nurse and civilian war hero.

"It was a time of fellowship, friendship, and building up of mutual understanding and respect for each other," Archbishop Simon Poh explained.

“The focus of both celebrations is different. CNY is about Thanksgiving and family reunions, while Lent calls us to the discipline of fasting, abstinence, sacrifice, prayer, and almsgiving,” Archbishop Simon Poh said.

A Malaysian bishop who is set to be elevated to the cardinalate next month said that his appointment is a vital decision for Pope Francis who wants to implant the Catholic faith in every culture, particularly in a diverse region such as Asia.

Malaysian bishops pledged to permanently eco-friendly their dioceses.

“In the face of climate change, governments, Christians and all peoples are asked to act NOW!” Archbishop Simon Poh said.
