The Catholic bishops of Pakistan have expressed prayerful solidarity with the people of Japan following the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Kumamoto Prefecture on the southern Japanese island of Kyushu, offering condolences to the victims and prayers for those affected.
A leading voice for religious freedom, human rights, and social justice in Pakistan, Bishop Samson Shukardin has served as bishop of the Diocese of Hyderabad since 2015. He also serves as president of the Pakistan Catholic Bishops' Conference.
Bishop Samson Shukardin, president of the Pakistan Catholic Bishops' Conference, led a delegation to comfort the family of a Christian paramilitary soldier who was recently killed during a national security operation in Karachi.
“As president, I intend to focus on justice and peace, because our people are facing many difficulties and challenges, and we, as a Church, should address them to make them safer,” Bishop Samson said.
