Persons Deprived of Liberty

Seeking to transform the lives of those behind bars, Church leaders and lay volunteers in the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan, Oriental Mindoro, Philippines, convened for a three-day seminar aimed at institutionalizing prison ministry, promoting restorative justice, and upholding the dignity of the human person.

A bishop in Philippines’ Mindoro island on Maundy Thursday, April 17, washed the feet of 12 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP)-Calapan City District Jail in Oriental Mindoro province.

Philippine Jesuit Prison Service (PJPS), which caters to Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) through its pastoral care, is to provide free meals every two weeks on Thursdays.

The Prison Ministry and Socio-Pastoral Apostolate of the Society of Jesus, Philippine Province is working tirelessly to guide and bring hope to individuals who have lost their way, particularly the youth who are Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) and have made mistakes in life.
