Pope Leo XIV’s postoperative recovery is progressing normally, with blood tests and a chest X-ray confirming expected results following surgery, the Holy See Press Office said on October 14, according to Vatican News.

The Pope underwent the scheduled medical tests on October 14 morning, and the results showed that his clinical values were within the expected range for the operation performed, according to a statement from the press office.

“The Holy Father has undergone respiratory physiotherapy and has begun walking around his room,” the statement said. “He has resumed eating normally and had breakfast and lunch.”

“His recovery is proceeding as expected,” it added.

The statement was issued by Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora, head of thoracic surgery at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, who performed the operation with the medical team.

Matteo Bruni, director of the Holy See Press Office, told journalists that Pope Leo concelebrated Mass in the afternoon in a room specially prepared for the purpose on the hospital’s 10th floor.

The update provided further details on the Pope’s recovery following surgery and indicated that his rehabilitation was proceeding as expected.
