Archbishop Unveils New Logo as Jubilee Celebrations Highlight Media Mission in Bangladesh
The Episcopal Commission for Social Communications (EC-SC) marked a historic milestone on December 13 as Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze, OMI, of Dhaka unveiled its new logo during the Golden Jubilee celebrations in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The event highlighted the Church’s commitment to evangelization and social transformation through media.
The celebration featured a stage drama, Rang Tulir Jibon (The Life of a Paintbrush), performed by Banideepti, EC-SC’s cultural and audiovisual wing. Recently, Banideepti expanded its mission by launching a theatre group to promote Catholic values through art. The play was written and directed by Bindu Rozario.
Before the performance, Father Bulbul Augustine Rebeiro, Director of the Christian Communication Center, welcomed the audience and reflected on the commission’s 50-year journey. “The theme of the Golden Jubilee is: Always committed to spread the truth,” he said. “We pay tribute to all who have served this mission over the decades.”
Archbishop D’Cruze, who also serves as President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bangladesh, praised the commission’s work. “This 50-year journey of the Social Communication Commission is significant,” he said while unveiling the logo. “I congratulate all who have accelerated the truth through this mission.”
He commended Banideepti’s initiative, noting the power of drama to inspire values. “The play beautifully portrays reality and teaches deeply,” he said. “I hope it strengthens love, service, justice, and mutual relationships, values much needed today.”
Dr. Benedict Alo D’Rozario, President of Caritas Asia and former Executive Director of Caritas Bangladesh, emphasized the cultural impact of theatre. “Drama is a vital element of culture,” he said. “Through it, we can become better and more humane.”
The two-hour play captivated the audience with its strong message and artistic excellence. Actor Ratan Peter Gomes, who played a teacher, explained its relevance: “The story reflects contemporary issues in Bangladeshi society. Economic progress is visible, but humanity and cooperation are not increasing. The play also warns against earning money illegally.”
Director Bindu Rozario and her team portrayed social challenges such as alcohol abuse, ignorance about land rights, and the destructive pursuit of wealth through powerful acting, lighting, and sound design.
The Episcopal Commission for Social Communications was established to promote the Good News and the Church’s social teachings through media. Its objectives include awakening spiritual and social consciousness, improving civic and economic conditions, and training Church personnel in effective communication.
As EC-SC celebrates its Golden Jubilee, its mission remains clear: to use modern communication tools to spread truth and foster a just and compassionate society.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
