Cambodia: Caritas Cambodia Expands Education Support with New School and Student Assistance
On November 12, 2025, Caritas Cambodia, together with local authorities, held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new school building and distributed school supplies, scholarships, and bicycles at Po Beung Primary School in Sre Ambel District, Koh Kong Province, about 150 km southwest of Phnom Penh.
Caritas Cambodia’s Executive Director, Mr. Kim Rattana, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting national development. “Education is the foundation of our country’s future,” he said, noting that Caritas Cambodia continues its work in key sectors such as education, health, livelihoods, anti-trafficking, and disaster response.
The new five-room school building will be constructed to high standards, with concrete foundations, a steel frame, eco-brick walls, and a raised structure to ensure safety. The project is funded by Caritas Cambodia, Aide et Action, and the Qatar Development Fund, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
During the event, 67 students, including 32 girls, received assistance: 55 received school supplies, 10 were awarded scholarships, and 2 bicycles were given to students in greatest need.
The new building is expected to help keep children in school by improving learning conditions and reducing dropout rates. The initiative aims to provide students with greater motivation and opportunities for a brighter future.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
