Caritas Cambodia Reaches Out to Refugees with Relief Aid

Caritas Cambodia, the social development arm of the Catholic Church in the country, has extended emergency assistance to thousands of refugees displaced by the recent border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.
On August 25–26, 2025, Caritas Cambodia distributed clean water and hygiene materials to 6,194 refugee families and provided support for temporary shelter in 10 camps across the provinces of Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, and Oddor Meanchey.
The ceremony was attended by Jesuit Bishop Enrique Figaredo Alvargonzález, Apostolic Prefect of Battambang and Chairperson of Caritas Cambodia, along with Kim Ratana, Executive Director of Caritas Cambodia.
The project, “Response to Disaster Caused by the Clashes at the Cambodia–Thai Border” (August–October 2025), focuses on: providing temporary shelter, water, sanitation, and hygiene support, protection and preparedness through education and health campaigns, establishing child-friendly spaces and libraries in refugee camps and offering psychosocial assistance, including mental health assessment, counseling, and referrals.
The program is being implemented in close collaboration with provincial governors and local authorities.
The relief effort follows an armed conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, which erupted on July 24, 2025, after a brief skirmish on May 28 escalated tensions along the border. Although both countries have since signed a peace truce, the clashes resulted in
civilian and military casualties and forced thousands of people from their homes on both sides of the border.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
