Catholic Bishop Donates US $5,000 to Buddhist Hospital in Cambodia

A Catholic bishop has donated US $5,000 to a Buddhist hospital in Cambodia to support poor and needy patients.
On September 9, 2025, Bishop Olivier Michel Marie Schmitthaeusler, MEP, Vicar Apostolic of Phnom Penh, visited to pay homage and hand over the donation to His Holiness Samdech Preah Abhisserei Sokonthea Mohasangkarajadhipati Kittiuoddesa Bandit Bour Kry, a supreme Patriarch of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya, Rector of Preah Sihamoni Raja Buddhist University and President of the Samdech Preah Reach Krou Bour Kry Health Post in Phnom Penh.
The donation is intended for the purchase of medicines and essential supplies needed to treat underprivileged patients at the Samdach Preah Kru Bour Kry Health Station.
This humanitarian gesture reflects the strong bond of friendship, solidarity, and interfaith harmony between Buddhism and the Catholic Church in Cambodia, serving as an inspiring model of religious collaboration for the good of the nation and its people.
About 95% of Cambodia’s population is Buddhist, 3% Muslim, and 1% Christian, including some 20,000 Catholics. The Catholic Church in Cambodia currently has more than 100 parishes and communities across three jurisdictions: the Vicariate of Phnom Penh, the Prefecture of Battambang, and the Prefecture of Kampong Cham.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
