Catholic woman wins ‘Dadasaheb Phalke Indian Television Award 2023’ for social work

Belinda Pereira

Belinda Pereira, an Indian Catholic woman, was one of the recipients of the Dadasaheb Phalke Indian Television Award 2023: Viewers’ Choice of the Year in the social work category on June 11.

"The moment my name was called, I was overwhelmed with joy and happiness. The feeling is amazing, as it's a very big achievement for me to hold the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Indian Television Award 2023," Pereira told RVA News.

In Thane, a significant city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, Belinda founded the "Karuna Ghar" (Home of Mercy) Foundation (KGF) in 2006 as a daycare facility for underprivileged children. KGF offers food and educational opportunities for children in need.

She formerly worked as a social worker at a nearby school and the local Catholic church in the Archdiocese of Bombay.

She collaborates with many organizations that help children with impairments.

She asserts that the purpose of her charity is to extend mercy to children who are homeless and those who come from low-income or single-parent households. The kids receive a top-notch education to lay the foundation for their future.

Last April 16, she was among the winners of the 3rd Mother Teresa Award for the best social activist category in Mumbai, given by Ray of Hope Mumbai, an NGO.

In the past, Pereira has received many other words for her work.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Indian Television Award 2023 function was held at Hyatt Centric, Mumbai, western India.

The event was organized by Akhilesh Singh, founder and chairman of the Dadasaheb Phalke Indian Television Award, to recognize and express appreciation to TV personalities and others for their contributions to the entertainment industry.

The awards are presented in several categories: young entrepreneur, actor, actress, producer, director, model, social worker, and photographer. - Santosh Digal
