China: Zhoucun Diocese Hosts Bible Quiz for Jubilee Year

The Diocese of Zhoucun in Shandong hosted a “Word of Life” Bible Knowledge Contest on September 13 at Xigao Catholic Church, Boxing Parish.

On September 13, the Diocese of Zhoucun, located in Shandong Province, China, hosted a Bible Knowledge Contest with the theme “Word of Life” at Xigao Catholic Church in Boxing Parish.

The event aimed to deepen the faithful’s knowledge, understanding, and love of the Scriptures, while strengthening the life of faith among lay Catholics.

The contest was divided into two sections: individual and team competitions. More than 200 participants of all ages first took a written test. After 70 minutes, the twelve highest scorers advanced to the public round, answering questions displayed on screen. Following three rounds, the winners of the grand prize, first prize, second prize, and third prize were announced.

The team competition brought even more excitement. Twelve parish teams, each with three representatives, took part. This stage included mandatory, optional, and quick-response questions, as well as opportunities for teams to set questions for each other. With diverse formats and lively exchanges, the atmosphere was engaging and interactive. Contestants remained focused, while supporters enthusiastically encouraged their teams. After several intense rounds, the top three teams were determined based on total points.

At the conclusion of the competition, Fr. Wu Kexing, diocesan leader, explained the deeper purpose of the event: “Our goal in holding this contest is not to compete for rankings, but to encourage everyone’s love for and study of the Bible. By coming together, meeting and learning from one another, we discover others’ strengths and our own shortcomings, which gives us greater motivation to study Scripture and draw closer to God.”

The contest was organized and hosted by the diocesan Jubilee Task Force: Fr. Tian Bin, Fr. Chi Yongyue, and Fr. Yang Fan. Their efforts ensured that the event was not only competitive but also formative, inspiring participants to grow in their appreciation of Scripture.

In the evening, a Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated, presided over by Fr. Wu Kexing, with Fr. Wu Shihao and Fr. Tian Bin as concelebrants.

During his homily, Fr. Wu Shihao emphasized the primacy of God’s word:

“We must listen to God’s word above all human words. In learning, we should not fear making mistakes. We must continually deepen our study of the Bible, enriching the universal Church’s witness with our life experiences.”

Before the conclusion of Mass, Fr. Wu Kexing and the concelebrants presented certificates and souvenirs to the winners, affirming their excellent performance and encouraging all the faithful to become “the light of the world and the salt of the earth” through their personal witness of faith.

RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
