A member of the Blessed Sacrament Missionaries of Charity was found dead in an apartment she was renting in Lipa, a city more than 70 kilometers southeast of Manila, on June 27.

In a statement, the St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish in the Archdiocese of Lipa announced that, after a thorough investigation by the police, it was determined that Sr. Rita Rama died of a heart attack. “No evidence of foul play nor sexual assault was found,” the statement added.

Sr. Rama was in charge of two mission communities in Lipa, under the jurisdiction of the parish. She was responsible for attending to the spiritual needs of community members.

“She was instrumental in building more than 40 houses for underprivileged families in Dagatan Creek. She was also our ‘Prayer Catechist,’ a catechist whose focus was to teach basic prayers in public schools,” the parish noted.

Her remains were cremated following the autopsy, as her body was found in an advanced state of decomposition.

While the wake and burial arrangements are still being finalized by her family and congregation, her ashes are currently in the custody of San Fernando Funeral Homes in Lipa.

RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
