Fondacio Asia brought together 44 pilgrims from Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, and Thailand for a Sacred Pilgrimage in Haemi, South Korea, from September 4 to 9, 2026.
The pilgrimage centered on prayer, reflection, and encounters with sites connected to the Korean martyrs. Participants from the four countries traveled together and reflected on the witness of those who remained faithful during persecution.
The group visited the Galmaemot and Sinri Shrines, where they learned about the Korean martyrs and reflected on their faith and sacrifice. Through prayer, reflection, and the Sinri Program, the pilgrims considered the experiences of those who remained steadfast in their faith.
The following day, the group continued to sites associated with the Haemi martyrs, including the Queen’s House, Sanghong-ri Chapel, Haemi Castle, and Haemi International Shrine. The visits provided opportunities for prayer and reflection on the witness of the martyrs.
One of the significant moments of the pilgrimage was the celebration of Holy Mass in the Darkness. The celebration invited participants to reflect on faith amid difficulty and uncertainty.
On September 8, the pilgrims took part in integration sessions after several days of visiting sites connected with the Korean martyrs. They shared their experiences and reflected on how the pilgrimage could influence their lives and communities.
The sessions encouraged participants to connect what they had experienced during the pilgrimage with their realities at home and to consider how they could live out their faith in their respective communities.
The pilgrimage concluded in Seoul on September 9, as the 44 participants prepared to return to Indonesia, Italy, Malaysia, and Thailand.
During the pilgrimage, the participants prayed together, visited sites associated with the Korean martyrs, and reflected on the witness of those who remained faithful to their beliefs.
The journey brought together Catholics from four countries through a shared experience of prayer, reflection, and encounter with the history of the Korean martyrs.
