The United Interfaith Foundation and International Herb Association (IHA) Foundation held an interfaith dialogue and prayer for peace at the Arch Bishop's House in Calcutta on July 9.

In the northeastern Indian state of Manipur, ethnic violence has persisted for two months. The prayer for peace invoked God's favor and instantaneous calm in Manipur.

"We have come together to pray for peace all over the world, and we pray for peace to return to Manipur," said Archbishop Thomas D'Souza.

The event brought together religious leaders and representatives from different faith backgrounds to exchange ideas.

Following the Interfaith dialogue, "a prayer for peace and brotherhood" was conducted and led by representatives of various faiths, for world peace and harmony and also to express solidarity with the people of Manipur, a state torn by ethnic conflict," said Chandona Rozario, RVA Bengali service centre coordinator.

Iranian dignitaries, including Maulana Mahdi Madhavpura, and an Indian representative of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, participated in the discussion.

Commenting on the event, Mahadvipour said, "India and Iran share a seven-year history of friendship, and events like this reaffirm our commitment to strengthening cultural ties and fostering peace and brotherhood."

The General Secretary of The United Interfaith Foundation, Satnam Singh Ahluwalia, who also participated in the event, said such initiatives play a vital role in promoting harmony, peace, and cooperation among religious communities. - Chandona Rozario, RVA Bengali service
