India: Kottar Diocese Celebrates Jubilee Year of Hope with Faith, Service, and Inclusivity

The Diocese of Kottar in southern India marked the Jubilee Year of Hope 2025 with a vibrant month-long celebration in September, led by the Christian Life Commission. Covering the areas of Bible, Liturgy, and Catechism, the commission organized a series of faith-filled and community-centered events that combined prayer, learning, and service.
Throughout the month, diocesan-level competitions and activities were held for catechism students, teachers, parish liturgical groups, and members of the Bible Commission. A highlight was a quiz based on Spes non confundit, the Bull of Indiction for the Jubilee Year 2025, alongside Bible quizzes for liturgy teams and parish groups. Skill development programs and creative activities ensured participation across all age groups.
The central celebration took place on September 21, drawing nearly 800 participants from across the diocese. During the gathering, sacristans with more than 25 years of service were honored in recognition of their dedication to parish communities.
One of the most moving moments of the day was a fundraising initiative that collected Rs. 2,02,025 from volunteers of the participating commissions. The entire amount was donated to the diocesan commission supporting persons with disabilities, a gesture widely praised as a true witness of Jubilee values.
Bishop Nazarene Soosai of Kottar, together with diocesan leaders including Fr. John Rufus (Vicar General), Fr. Merlin Rengith Ambrose (Executive Secretary of the Commission for Canon Law, CCBI), and Fr. Edmond (Commission Coordinator), urged the faithful to live out the Jubilee message through concrete acts of faith, service, and solidarity.
The program was coordinated by Fr. John Jore Henson, with the support of clergy, including Fr. Amalraj and Fr. Godfrey, who encouraged participants and commended the Christian Life Commission for its dedicated efforts.
The Kottar celebrations not only reflected the spirit of the Jubilee Year of Hope but also underscored the call of Pope Francis for a Church rooted in communion, participation, and mission, marked by inclusivity, generosity, and hope.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
