The Women's Partners Commission of the Parish Church of St. Faustina Kowalska in the Diocese of Bogor, Indonesia, launched the Faustina Tailoring Course on April 1.

The project was formed as part of the church's mission to assist people in reestablishing their economies through employment and self-sufficiency.

This sewing program aims to empower and elevate women to help their families and households make money, suitable for everyone, said Father Mikail Endro Susanto, the parish priest of St. Faustina Kowalska.

He said that the church set up the sewing class to show that it cares about others by giving them the information, skills, and positive values they need to grow, work and help their families make money.

The priest added that the parish church's presence is beneficial to our fellow human beings and the surrounding community.

Father Susanto urged that this course should be adequately administered.

The church is not required to be "pastor-centered.” The community must work cooperatively to establish this parish.

"We must be able to empower the local economy, our families, and neighbors," Father Susanto stated.

Meanwhile, Kristina Dewi Ataladjar, the head of the Santa Faustina Parish's Women's Partner Commission, stated that this training aims to provide women with valuable knowledge and skills necessary for economic independence.

This course is not only for church members but also for the surrounding community, said Ataladjar.

She hoped that armed with this expertise, in the future, participants would not only be able to sew their clothes, their children's clothes, and their husbands' clothes but also participate in efforts to empower the economic course participants and the community through sewing skills.

Wiwin, a member of the Diocese of Bogor's Women's Partner Commission, said that Faustina’s sewing course is an example of one of the Women’s Association of the Diocese of Bogor's primary goals: education and training.

She stated that the association's objective was to investigate and enhance the talent and experience of women in this parish.

It also nurtures the value of love; that what is done must be founded on love, she added.

Additionally, the female partners in this parish have developed alliances with other organizations.

This Faustina sewing class program caters to all of these demographics, said Wiwin.

"Hopefully, in the future, this sewing course will attract a large number of individuals looking for those eager to learn, serve, and continue to develop to accomplish the church's and society's hopes,” she concluded.
