To capacitate community resilience, PSE Caritas Maumere Diocese in Flores, Indonesia, held a workshop for Mount Lewotobi eruption survivors on August 11, 2025, at Talibura, Sikka.

The workshop will continue till August 13.

The activity is part of the post-eruption recovery of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes, involving 35 participants from five affected villages, Kringa, Hikong, Udekduen, Timutawa, and Ojang.

Participants come from various groups of the community, including the village council, teachers, water managers, station administrators, and people with disabilities.

In his speech, Bishop Ewaldus Martinus Sedu of Maumere reaffirmed the importance of mutual commitment in building village resilience amid natural calamities.

"Caritas Maumere is present as a facilitator and companion for the village government and the community until the goal of the program is achieved and the village can become safer and resilient against disasters,” he said.

Caritas Maumere is the local branch of Caritas Indonesia, which is the humanitarian and development arm of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of Indonesia.

Lewotobi is a twin volcano located in the southeastern part of the island of Flores, Indonesia. The last eruption was on August 1 and 2, 2025. The earlier major eruption was on July 7.

Indonesia, an archipelago of more than 280 million people, has 120 active volcanoes.
