Notre Dame University Bangladesh celebrates Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti with Cultural Fest

Notre Dame University Bangladesh (NDUB), a Catholic-run institution in the heart of Dhaka, hosted the Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti Festival, featuring a vibrant cultural competition and an award ceremony at Motijheel on June 3.

The program commemorated the birth anniversaries of two of Bengal’s literary giants—Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam—through a colorful and inspiring celebration at the university campus.

The event began with a performance of Rabindra Sangeet, followed by poetry recitations and renditions of Nazrul Geeti—all presented by the talented student winners of the university’s internal competitions.

Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam, two towering figures in Bengali literature, have left an indelible mark on the cultural and intellectual life of the nation. While Tagore championed education, harmony, and humanism through his vast literary oeuvre, Nazrul gave voice to the oppressed, challenging injustice with his powerful words and revolutionary spirit.

In her closing remarks, Deputy Director of Student Affairs Sister Sagarika Maria Gomes, CSC, expressed deep gratitude to all performers, organizers, and attendees. She encouraged students to continue drawing inspiration from the life and work of these two great poets, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage in shaping thoughtful, socially conscious citizens.

The event concluded with an award distribution ceremony, where faculty and distinguished guests honored the winners for their outstanding artistic expression and creativity—underscoring NDUB’s ongoing commitment to nurturing both academic excellence and cultural engagement.
