Pakistan: Catholic College in Lahore Recognized as Examination Center
The Punjab government’s education board in Pakistan has recognized Mazenod College in Lahore as an official examination center for the 2026 annual Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examinations.
Run by the Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate (OMI), the college is located in Youhanabad, the largest Christian locality in Lahore. Established in 2021, it aims to provide quality education to young Christian men and women in the area.
Fr. Ikram Philpus, OMI, administrator of the college, described the recognition as a milestone for both the institution and the local Church.
“It is a great achievement for the college and for the Church in Lahore that we have been recognized as an examination center for the SSC and HSC board examinations,” he said. “It was a long-awaited goal to serve in the mainstream education system, and we are grateful that it has been realized.”
According to Fr. Philpus, Mazenod College will host around 860 students for the SSC examinations in April and a similar number for the HSC examinations in May and June.
He noted that the designation not only expands the college’s role but also strengthens staff capacity. “This opportunity will help train our staff as examination supervisors and contribute to their professional development, which will ultimately benefit the institution,” he said.
Fr. Philpus added that the recognition will help extend the college’s mission to a broader segment of society. “We are committed to forming young people who can contribute to building Pakistan. Our mission is to reach more youth in Lahore without distinction of creed or background,” he said.
The OMI mission in Pakistan launched the college in October 2021 with 147 students, marking the golden jubilee of their presence in the country, which began in 1971. The institution offers modern facilities, including digital classrooms, a computer lab, and science laboratories for biology, chemistry, and physics.
In addition to academic programs, the college provides skills development courses aimed at empowering youth. Introduced in 2025, these include computer literacy, block printing, beauty services, and dressmaking, currently benefiting around 230 young people.
The college also offers hostel accommodation for female students from outside Lahore and provides scholarships for orphans, economically disadvantaged students, and those from single-parent families.
Mazenod College is one of two Catholic colleges in the Archdiocese of Lahore offering higher secondary education, alongside St. John’s College
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
