Pakistan: Karachi Archdiocese Job Fair Attracts Nearly 4,000 Jobseekers
The Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi, in collaboration with Saiban-e-Pakistan and the Sindh Centre for Excellence on Countering Violent Extremism, organized a job fair on 15 November 2025 at St. Patrick’s High School in Saddar, central Karachi.
Fr. Edward Joseph, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Karachi, inaugurated the event and visited the 38 stalls set up by various organizations, multinational companies, banks, and firms offering a wide range of job vacancies in the fields of technology, healthcare, engineering, business, and public service.
“I appreciate the organizing team and the various companies that took part in this initiative. This effort by the Archdiocese of Karachi and its collaborators is a great encouragement for young people in the city to learn about more opportunities for their professional careers,” Archbishop Benny Mario Travas said in his video message to the attendees.
Emphasizing the government’s job quota for non-Muslims, the Archbishop added: “There is a five percent job quota set aside for non-Muslim citizens of Pakistan, but unfortunately, many young people are not aware of it. I hope Job Fair 2025 will also be a source of awareness for the attendees.”
He continued, “I aim to expand this initiative to reach more people and make an even greater impact. I extend my gratitude to all the sponsors, partners, organizations, volunteers, and participants for coming forward to make this event a success.”
The event provided attendees with on-the-spot interviews, screening, career counseling, and CV review sessions, as well as workshops on job readiness, communication, and digital skills. Information booths showcasing training and scholarship programs for higher studies were also available.
Speaking to Radio Veritas Asia, Fr. Mario Rodrigues, Principal of St. Patrick’s High School and host of the event, said that throughout the day, they saw a great influx of over 3,800 job seekers. Many secured interviews on the spot, while others were shortlisted for further recruitment processes. “The Job Fair 2025 attendance speaks of its success, drawing an impressive turnout of jobseekers, employers, and partner institutions. The event served as a dynamic platform where talent meets opportunity, fostering meaningful connections across multiple industries,” he said.
He further added: “Employers praised the high quality of applicants, while jobseekers appreciated the accessible and well-organized format. Many participants described the fair as a ‘valuable bridge’ connecting them to real opportunities in an increasingly competitive job market.”
On behalf of the Catholic Archdiocese of Karachi, Fr. Rodrigues thanked the organizing committee, benefactors, participating companies, volunteers, youth, and the jobseekers who came in such large numbers. He expressed his hope to bring an even larger number of companies on board for Job Fair 2026 to serve more young people in the archdiocese.
The event was also graced by the Chief Secretary of Sindh Province, Mr. Muhammad Iqbal Memon; Ms. Roma Mushtaq Matto, Christian Member of the Provincial Assembly of Sindh; delegates from various non-Muslim communities, including Sikh, Parsi, Baha’i, and Hindu communities; as well as priests, nuns, and principals of Catholic schools.
Speaking to Radio Veritas Asia, Mr. Christopher Sharaf, one of the event’s collaborators, said: “We are delighted with the overwhelming response to this year’s fair. The active engagement of employers and jobseekers reflects a shared commitment to building a stronger, more inclusive workforce. Job Fair 2025 has become a testament to our mission of opening doors and creating pathways toward meaningful employment.”
