Parish promotes ecological awareness in Malaysia
With a continued focus on environmental care, the Church of St. John Marie Vianney, Tampin, has initiated taking up the Ecological Parish Pledge.
In preparation for this, a formation on Ecological Spirituality and Leadership was facilitated by CJM. Parishioners and students joined in the formation on May 4.
The celebration of Mass before the practical activities reinforces the connection between faith and action. Fr. Michael Dass and Fr. Andrew Manickam celebrated the Holy Mass.
Planting a chickoo (sapodilla) sapling was also done.
This is a tangible and symbolic act of caring for the earth. Planting trees contributes to carbon sequestration, provides habitats, and beautifies the environment.
Parishioners brought in unused clothes: This demonstrates a commitment to reducing waste and promoting recycling/reuse. Taking the clothes back to Kuala Lumpur , the CJM team suggests a partnership for collection and distribution.
The Kuala Lumpur Archdiocese has lauded the Church of St. John Marie Vianney’s efforts to continue to focus on caring for ecology, or our common home.
In 2023, all nine bishops of Malaysia made pledges to make their dioceses fully and genuinely ecological in perpetuity.
It is a collective effort to integrate ecological spirituality and action in the Catholic Church.
The step comes from a commitment, as done by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei (CBCMSB), which fosters a holistic approach to ecology.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
