PUSH India Gathers Churches and NGOs to Strengthen Livelihoods, Stop Trafficking

PUSH (People Uniting to Stop Human Trafficking), a network of civil society organizations, churches, and individuals committed to preventing, raising awareness of, and advocating against trafficking in persons, organized its National Conclave on Livelihood on August 26–27, 2025, at Don Bosco Inspiration, Kharguli, Guwahati.
The North East, rich in faith and culture, remains vulnerable as a source region for unsafe migration and trafficking. The two-day gathering brought together 65 participants from 12 churches and Christian organizations, uniting leaders and practitioners in prayer, worship, and strategic dialogue to promote sustainable solutions.
Active participation from the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) Commission for Migrants, Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS), and the Don Bosco network highlighted the Church’s shared mission to safeguard migrants and uphold the dignity of work.
Resource persons enriched the discussions:
-
Mr. Rohit Bhalla emphasized the role of faith communities in combating trafficking.
-
Ms. Aashima Samuel shared legal and social protection frameworks.
-
Mr. K.A. Jayakumar highlighted development and policy perspectives.
-
Fr. Joe Prabhu SDB and Fr. George Mathew SDB explored skill-building and livelihood opportunities.
-
Dr. Jayakumar (Retd. IAS) provided governance insights.
The conclave underscored the power of ecumenical collaboration in protecting vulnerable communities, strengthening livelihoods, and advancing God’s Kingdom through justice and solidarity.
As Rohit Bhalla, Convenor of PUSH India, remarked: “When the Church stands together in faith and action, we can transform migration from a story of vulnerability into a journey of hope.”
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
