As part of the culmination of activities marking the 10th anniversary of Laudato Si’, Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), in collaboration with the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences–Office of Social Communications (FABC–OSC), has announced a Mega International Short Film-Making Competition on the theme “Environmental Advocacy in Asia: Translating the Vision of Laudato Si’ into Care for Our Common Home.”

The announcement was made during the third Laudato Si’ webinar hosted by RVA on September 10, 2025. To promote the initiative, RVA has also produced a short video promo.

Who Can Join

The competition is open to filmmakers, storytellers, students, youth groups, social communication centers, organizations, movements, associations, parishes, convents, formation centers, dioceses, and congregations. While participants may come from any nationality, all films must reflect stories rooted in the Asian context.

“In short, anyone with a camera and a story to tell about Asia’s environment is welcome to participate,” organizers said.

Prizes and Awards

The competition offers attractive prizes to encourage participation. The first prize winner will receive USD 1,000, while the second and third place winners will be awarded USD 800 and USD 500, respectively. In addition, ten finalists will each receive USD 100 as a consolation prize. All participants whose submissions meet the basic requirements will also be given a certificate of recognition for their contribution.

Judging and Results

Entries will be evaluated based on thematic relevance, creativity and originality, technical quality, emotional and social impact, and clarity of message. A distinguished panel of Asian filmmakers and media experts will serve as judges, with winners to be announced on December 10, 2025.

Fr. Felmar Fiel, RVA’s General Manager, said the competition will encourage young filmmakers to produce authentic and challenging video stories on Laudato Si’, while also shedding light on the urgent need to care for creation, especially in Asia, which he described as “the most vulnerable continent to ecology-related threats.”

RVA’s Programme Director and Executive Secretary of the Office of the Social Communications, FABC, Fr John Mi Shen, who spearheads the initiative, expressed hope that the attractive prizes would inspire many filmmakers to participate. “Our intention is to support the Federation of Asian Bishops Conferences in its efforts to conscientize Asians, especially the youth, on the ecological crisis and to work together to create a healthier and safer environment for the future,” he said.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
