Radio Veritas Asia (RVA) and the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF) signed a mutually beneficial agreement to promote stories on their media platforms on June 15.
Under the agreement, "the stories and articles RMAF will provide shall be exclusive to RVA for three months upon publication."
After the three-month exclusivity period, the RMAF could share its stories with other publications.
RMAF would provide stories and articles about the foundation and the laureates to RVA. RVA, in turn, would publish them on its website and social media platforms.
Under the agreement, RMAF would also facilitate RVA's interviews with the Ramon Magsaysay awardees.
Likewise, RMAF's media platforms will promote RVA's writings on social issues in Asia, such as interfaith dialogue, poverty, and the environment.
During the signing of the memo, Father Victor F. Sadaya, CMF, RVA general manager, mentioned the changes to make RVA more efficient.
"We plan to maintain the different centers," he said. "Right now, we have already decentralized. We already have the language services back in their respective countries. But we maintain the major operations here in Manila."
RVA was awarded the 1986 Ramon Magsaysay Prize for its pivotal role in using the truth to overthrow an oppressive and corrupt regime known as the EDSA revolution and restore Filipino faith in the electoral process.
Susanna B. Afan, RMAF president, has also disclosed the foundation's plan to connect all Ramon Magsaysay awardees to young people.
"When you win, we hold hands together, keep in touch with one another, and see what we can do to connect you with the youth," she said.
The memo signing would rekindle the relationship between the RMAF and RVA, Afan noted.
Afan has also sparked interest in the mental health of the young.
"I wanted more conversations about mental health for our children," she said.
Young people shouldn't be scared to discuss mental health issues, Afan said.
She mentioned some children who were abuse victims and children who were wondering about their sexuality.
"There are many ways you can help people with traumatic experiences," Sadaya said, noting that there were safe places for abused children.
Sadaya has also mentioned the need to provide training to multiple counselors.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an effective technique in treating psycho-traumatic experiences, he said, noting that counseling is sometimes not enough.
Afan has also brought up environmental issues, like volcano eruptions, saying that things should be done for environmental concerns.
She has also suggested the formation of partnerships, the use of the media, and the participation of Ramon Magsaysay laureates in facing current environmental issues.
The agreement is part of honoring the spirit of greatness in selfless service to the people of Asia.
