Church in Bangladesh Organizes Seminar for Internal Migrant Prayer-Leaders

In a powerful show of community spirit, the Church in Bangladesh hosted a half-day seminar for lay leaders working with migrant communities at the Credit Union Centre in Modanpur, central Bangladesh, on July 11.
The event brought together over 50 dedicated spiritual guides who serve migrants across the country.
The seminar focused on empowering prayer leaders through faith formation and practical support. The gathering was graced by Mr. Hemanta Corraya, President of Dhaka Credit (largest Christian credit union in Bangladesh), and Mr. Nirmal Rozario, former President of the same, who encouraged participants to explore the benefits of the Credit Union movement in uplifting their socio-economic conditions.
A highlight of the event was an inspiring session led by Father Ajit Costa, OMI. Reflecting on the Jubilee theme “Pilgrims of Hope” and marking the 1700th anniversary of the Nicene Creed, he urged the prayer leaders to be living testimonies of faith amidst challenges. “You are not just leaders of prayer—you're pilgrims of hope who carry Christ into the lives of struggling migrant families,” Father Costa said.
The seminar also featured personal faith-sharing by participants, collaborative planning for the upcoming year, and the distribution of religious items, including statues of the Mother Mary, rosaries, and holy images. The day concluded with the celebration of Holy Mass.
This gathering held special significance as it took place at the Credit Centre in Modanpur, which had previously suffered a devastating fire on August 6, 2024.
Through the generous support of well-wishers, the center has been partially restored and now serves once again as a space for spiritual nourishment for migrant workers.
The presence of Sister Noel, MC, and other committed Church workers added further inspiration to the day’s events, which reminded all present of the Church’s enduring mission to be a source of faith, dignity, and hope, especially for those living on the margins.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
