Deputy Secretary-General of the Thai Bishops’ Conference (CBCT) attended the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation

Father Suwat Luangsaard, Deputy Secretary-General of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Thailand (CBCT) attended the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Cooperation to assist and provide legal advice to monks and religious leaders endorsed by the government.

The signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Cooperation in helping and providing legal advice to monks and religious leaders recognized by the government between the Lawyers Council under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King Office of National Buddhism, Department of Religious Affairs, took place on February 14, at meeting room 402-403, 4th floor, Parliament Building.

Leaders of different religions attended the ceremony.

The MoU agreed on the following.

  1. It requires a common practice of providing legal advice to monks and religious leaders endorsed by the government throughout the country.
  2. To establish patterns and procedures, and appoint coordinators for all three parties to ensure timely coordination of information.
  3. To establish a form of public relations to educate monks and religious leaders endorsed by the government.
  4. In case of disputes or lawsuits relating to religious affairs and religious institutions, in any province,
    1. Ask the Council of Lawyers in the Royal Patronage.
    2. Inform the chairman of the provincial council of lawyers or the provincial solicitor to cooperate in assisting and providing legal advice to monks and religious leaders endorsed by the government, as requested, at no cost.

National Buddhist Office Department of Religious Affairs, Dr. Wichian Chutthaisong President of the Royal Council of Lawyers, Mr. Inthaporn Chan-iam, Deputy Director Acting Director of the National Buddhist Office, and Mr. Chaipol Suk-iam, the Director-General of the Department of Religious Affairs, signed the MoU.
