Pope Francis appointed him bishop of Gumaca Diocese on June 12, 2015, and he became the third bishop of the same diocese.

His episcopal ordination was on August 29, 2015, and installation was on September 3, 2015.

As a priest he served as director of the catechetical office, the liturgical commission, the Biblical apostolate, and the family and life commission and as the chancellor of the diocese and member of the consultors.

The bishop's motto is the Latin phrase "Corpus Meum" ("This is my body") from St. Luke's Gospel 22:19. It represents the bishop's perseverance in proclaiming Christ through the Mass and expressing the Church's unity as one body of Christ. - With inputs from CBCP News
