Cardinal Jose F. Advincula, Archbishop of Manila, unveiled the "Homeless Jesus" statue at the Manila Cathedral on Palm Sunday, April 10.

The sculpture of the “Homeless Jesus” by Canadian artist Timothy P. Schmalz is permanently placed on the patio of the Cathedral.

The image shows Jesus as a homeless man sleeping on a bench while wrapped in a blanket. Jesus is identifiable by the crucifixion wounds on his feet.

The image would "inspire reflections and conversations on how we care for the poor and homeless in the community,” a press statement from Manila Cathedral said.

"May this statue not only become a place for visits or pictures, but a space to deepen our prayer, and to convert and change our hearts," the press note added.

Other replicas of the statue are located in Buenos Aires (Argentina), Capernaum (Isreal), New York (USA), Madrid (Spain), Melbourne (Australia), Rome (Italy), and Singapore.
