Seoul Archdiocese in South Korea on January 28 ordained 23 new priests including three from missionary orders at Myeongdong Cathedral in the capital Seoul.

They will be assigned to work in Latin America as missionaries, said a press note from Seoul Archdiocese.

The three new priests belong to the Seoul International Catholic Missionary Society. The archdiocese established it in 2005 to send missionaries to Latin America.

Carmelite Archbishop Peter Chung Soon Taick was the main ordaining prelate.

Besides, Bishop Fernando Reis, Chargé of the Apostolic Nunciature in Korea, Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo Jung, retired Archbishop of Seoul, and Auxiliary Bishop attended the event.

Following Covid-19 restrictions, diocesan clergy and parents of newly ordained priests were allowed to take part in the ceremony.

The Mass was live-streamed on the Seoul Archdiocese's YouTube channel and the Catholic Peace Broadcasting Corporation (CPBC), the Korean Church's multimedia network.

Speaking to the new missionaries, Archbishop Chung urged them to remain firm in their commitment to serve Jesus and the church.

At the same time, he thanked parents, seminary staff, priests, nuns, and laypeople who have helped in the training of the new priests over the years.

The prelate said it is a matter of pride for the church in Korea to send missionaries to Latin America.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
