April 19, Friday of the Third Week of Easter
Daily Readings: Acts 9:1-20; John 6:52-59

The first reading tells the story of Saul's conversion. In this event, he saw a great light from heaven strike him and he heard the voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” He said, “Who art thou, Lord?” The reply came, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. He trembled and was astonished, saying, Lord, what do you want me to do? Then the Lord instructed him to proceed to Damascus.

The Gospel today shows that Jesus continues to preach in the synagogue of Capernaum, telling the people that He is the bread of life.

Jesus continues to educate his followers that He is the bread of life. A bread that could satisfy their hunger. In this context, bread is the representation of spiritual life. The human dimension is composed of physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological, and social.

How do we address the spiritual aspect? The word of God nourishes it. We need to believe in Jesus as the true Bread who nourishes our Spiritual needs.

Staying with Jesus assures us that he will always be with us. Jesus invites us to stay with him, for he is the source of our spiritual life.

Lord, help us to remain with you always, accepting you as the true bread in our lives. Amen.
