Daily Readings: Wisdom 18:14-16; 19:6-9; Luke 18:1-8

God is alive. He dwells not only in heaven but also on earth, in the midst of His people. His Word is powerful and transformative. It is active and vibrant, coming from His royal throne. It is authentic. One witnessed the power of God’s Word in Egypt when Moses performed prodigious acts before Pharaoh, preparing him for the great event of the Exodus. The same Word sustained the people as they crossed the Red Sea. It is powerful enough to grant us salvation. All creation is fashioned anew at God’s command, and it obeys Him. Therefore, the author calls for praise and worship of God, who delivered the people of Israel from every danger throughout their journey.

Jesus highlights the purpose of the parable in today’s Gospel reading. As believers, we are called to pray always and never lose hope. The main character in the parable is a judge who neither fears God nor respects people. A widow comes to him seeking justice against her opponent. She persistently bothers him until he can no longer deny her request. Finally, he relents and grants her justice. Jesus draws His conclusion: if even a human being like this relents, if not out of mercy, then at least because of persistence, how much more will God, a loving and caring Father, respond to His children? God is always ready to listen to our prayers. His Son Jesus taught us to ask, seek, and knock, but with faith. Jesus also challenges the modern generation: Will He find faith on earth when He returns? This is a profound challenge for all of us in the third millennium.

Call to Action: The persistent widow teaches us an enormous lesson: we should never become disappointed at any point in life. Why? If God is ready to listen to our prayers, why shouldn’t we trust Him?

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
