There was a time when the role of women was restricted to the home. They bear children, and they raise them up. They take care of the home—clean, cook, and do the laundry.

This has now changed. We live at a time when women are more educated and independent. They are taking an active role in society. Many of them demand a greater role in the church besides being good mothers, attending liturgical celebrations, and joining pious associations.

During the time of Jesus, women performed their traditional roles. The place of women was in the home. What is amazing in our Gospel today is the account of women accompanying Jesus as he carried out his mission. They were companions and followers of Jesus, not just the male apostles and disciples. This is indeed extraordinary.

The community of disciples of Jesus was not exclusively made up of men, unlike other groups and sects during his time. Women and not just men accompanied Jesus on his missionary journey.

Today, as the Church reexamines the role of women in the Church's life and mission, it is well to remember that Jesus went beyond the social and cultural mores of his time and welcomed women into the community that he started.

They take an active part in the Church’s missionary journey. They have much to contribute with their gifts, resources, and talents. Their active role in society and in the Church must be recognized. This does not mean rejecting their essential contribution to bearing and raising new life.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
