Possessing God Fully

July 27, Wednesday, 17th Week in Ordinary Time
Daily readings: Jeremiah 15:10, 16-21; Gospel: Matthew 13:44-46

We allow God to become our new source of strength and power by relinquishing our attachments.

In the gospel reading, Jesus offers two parables of the kingdom: "treasure buried in a field" and "merchant searching for fine pearls." The first person owns all the land, while the second person only has the pearl and nothing else.

The response to the kingdom of God has to be complete and with the utmost priority. Both these people take a significant risk by letting go of their belongings. They search, they find, and they never settle. And there is excellent haste in what they do, for they don’t want to lose the opportunity. They are the owners of the treasure and the pearl.

In the first reading, God renews the call of Jeremiah. In the first part, Jeremiah laments before God, while in the second part, God continues his vocation as a prophet and assures him of his constant presence and support. Jeremiah now has to let go of the former to embrace the latter.

Every failure is an opportunity to mature. Growth implies that we let go of the former. We can’t stand in one place and walk to the next. The process involves pain, risk, and discernment.

Let's ask ourselves today: What things or people must we let go of today to acquire the treasure and the pearl? Do we bring our supplications to God, or do we become weary of them? Do we experience the constant presence of God, who never disappoints?

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
