Pray for the Leaders

October 13, Thursday of 28th Week in Ordinary Time
Daily readings: Ephesians 1:1-10, Gospel Luke 11:47-54

These days we have been listening to some pretty strong words from Jesus directed explicitly at the Pharisees and the law teachers. Jesus knew what was in their hearts (cf. Jn 2:24-25) and hence, was a perfect judge of souls.

He was all the more severe on them because, as leaders of the people, they had greater responsibility to live according to God’s heart and be an inspiration for the people, but they chose otherwise. Unsurprisingly, they turned defensive at such hard-hitting words, especially when made in public.

However, in the sacred chamber of their souls, they should have recognized the truth of Jesus’ words and repented; instead, they hardened their hearts, refusing to accept their guilt and deciding to eliminate Jesus.

That is what power does: silence the voice of truth. Let us pray today for our leader – in the Church and the secular world – to have hearts after the Good Shepherd's heart.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
