Real circumcision is a matter of heart!

August 11, 2025 Monday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Clare, Virgin
Daily Readings: Deuteronomy 10:12-22; Matthew 17:22-27
God’s love for Israel is deeply personal, He “set His heart in love” upon them. In return, they are called to walk in His ways, love Him, and serve Him wholeheartedly. True obedience leads to well-being. While physical circumcision marked Abraham’s descendants, God later calls for a circumcision of the heart, a deeper spiritual commitment. Paul echoes this in Romans 2:29: real circumcision is inward, by the Spirit.
God’s faithfulness extends especially to the vulnerable, orphans, widows, and strangers, because Israel, too, was once a stranger in Egypt. The call is to imitate God in compassion and loyalty.
The Gospel presents two lessons:
- Jesus foretells His passion and resurrection, leaving the disciples distressed.
- In Capernaum, when questioned about the temple tax, Jesus, though exempt, chooses not to cause offense. He instructs Peter to find a coin miraculously in a fish’s mouth, highlighting His divine provision and civic sensitivity.
Call to Action: God’s love is compassionate and caring. We, who are created in God’s own image and likeness, should learn to love Him in return. How compassionate am I?
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
