Who is Great?

July 6, Thursday of the thirteenth week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings:  1st Reading: Genesis 22:1b–19; Gospel; Matthew 9:1–8

Two parties constantly exist on our planet. For instance, when we discuss an issue, we can identify two groups: supporters and opponents. Powerful groups usually triumph. Today's reading also has two groups.

In today’s gospel, we find two groups of people. One has a strong faith in Jesus, and the other has a critical attitude or lack of faith.

The first group with a strong faith is none other than the men who carried the paralyzed man on a bed. They had a strong belief that Jesus could heal him if they just brought him before him. They tried all they could to bring him before Jesus. By seeing their faith, Jesus healed the paralyzed man.

There was also a second group that murmured against Jesus’ act. They don’t want Jesus to do this. Here, the first group with strong faith wins even amidst the opposition of the second one. In today’s first reading, too, Abraham, a man with deep faith, wins the test. In his test, the second group is present in his mind. Against those inner voices, he has come to sacrifice his son. He wins.

In our faith lives too, we always find these two groups. There is always someone or some voice inside our minds to pull us down from our strong faith in God. If we listen to them, we will be the losers. Let us not listen to the negative voices that can break our faith. Let’s be firmer in our faith. We can win anything with God.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
