Logo Rationale: The FABC Plenary Assembly XII
Theme: “You Will See Greater Things…” (Jn 1:50): The Call to Synodal Conversion and the Mission of Being Bridges and Bridge-Builders in Asia
Inspired by Christ’s promise to Nathanael, the official logo for the 12th FABC Plenary Assembly visually captures the Asian Church's journey toward deep spiritual renewal and its prophetic mission across the continent.
At its core, the design integrates traditional FABC symbols—the red cross, the flame of mission, and the descending white dove—set against a golden Eucharistic halo. This spiritual center anchors the assembly in the Holy Spirit, shining over a green shield that displays the map of Asia, which represents the diverse cultural, social, and pastoral realities the bishops are called to discern.
The foundational element of the design is the suspension bridge at the base, carrying a vibrant, multi-colored silhouette of the People of God—including clergy, religious, families, youth, and persons with disabilities—drawn directly from the global Synod identity.
This bridge serves a powerful dual purpose: it symbolizes the practical, structural pathways the Asian Church must build internally (ad intra) to foster transparency and participation, while declaring that the Church must outwardly (ad extra) embody a bridge of dialogue, reconciliation, and peace across cultures and faith traditions.
Together with bold, contemporary typography, the logo tells a unified story of bishops and their flock walking hand-in-hand, moving forward in hope to transform synodality from an abstract concept into a lived, missionary reality.

The Journey Continues
"You will see greater things..." (John 1:50)
The mission of the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences continues.
Across nations, cultures, and generations, the Church in Asia walks together—listening, serving, and proclaiming Christ to all the peoples of Asia.
FABC
History of FABC
The Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences (FABC) is a voluntary association of the episcopal conferences in Asia, established with the approval of the Holy See to foster solidarity and co-responsibility among its members for the welfare of the Church and society across the continent.
In December 1958, Manila became the meeting place of the Church in Asia. From December 10 to 16, following the consecration of the Manila Cathedral on December 7, a historic gathering was held at the Central Seminary of the University of Santo Tomas. The assembly brought together 10 Apostolic Nuncios, 16 Archbishops, and 79 Bishops representing 17 nations across Asia and the Pacific. Led by Cardinal Gregorio Pietro Agagianian, the then Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith (now the Dicastery for Evangelization), the bishops shared a common vision of proclaiming Christ more effectively throughout Asia. During this landmark meeting, they approved the creation of a Catholic radio station for Asia, a dream that would later become Radio Veritas Asia.
During the sessions of the Second Vatican Council in Rome in the 1960s, Asian bishops encountered one another in a new way. Many realized that they were more familiar with bishops from Europe than with their own brothers from Asia. That realization inspired a deeper commitment to communion, cooperation, and the building of a truly Asian Church.
The defining moment came in November 1970 during the visit of Pope Paul VI to Manila. From November 23 to 29, 180 Asian bishops gathered for the First Asian Bishops' Meeting, with the Holy Father presiding over the final session. It was there, in Manila, that the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences was born.
The following year, in March 1971, the bishops met once again in Hong Kong for the first Central Committee meeting to establish a permanent episcopal structure for Asia. On November 16, 1971, Pope Paul VI officially approved the statutes of the FABC ad experimentum for two years, marking the first formal recognition by Rome of the collective voice of the Church in Asia.
From February 13 to 15, 1973, Hong Kong hosted the third Central Committee meeting, which became the first FABC assembly held under the newly approved statutes. Over the decades that followed, the FABC grew into a guiding force for the Church in Asia, promoting dialogue, mission, peace, justice, and solidarity among peoples, cultures, and religions.
For more than five decades, the Federation has carried forward the shared dream of the Asian bishops: to become a Church deeply rooted in the realities of Asia and committed to walking together with all the peoples of the continent. In 2020, the FABC marked its golden jubilee, celebrating 50 years of communion and mission.
Today, across many nations, languages, and traditions, that mission remains alive. One Church. One family. One mission. For all the peoples of Asia. And the journey continues.
