In a moving celebration of faith and pastoral accountability, the Sri Lankan Catholic community in Qatar gathered on January 23, 2026, to celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph Vaz. The High Mass, held at the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary in Doha, was presided over by Bishop Wimalsiri Jayasuriya of Chilaw, a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Colombo, Sri Lanka.

“One day, an Italian PIME priest came to our village to preach the Word of God. He invited me to join a hostel, and I accepted. Gradually, my life began to change,” said Fr. Vincent Baburam Hasdak

Let us pray that the Spirit help us recognize the gift of different charisms within the Christian community, and to discover the richness of different ritual traditions in the heart of the Catholic Church.

Neak Loeung community is of Vietnamese origin. The people left their homeland due to persecution by the authorities to settle in Banam village, which is now in Neak Loeung, located in Peam Ro district, Prey Veng province, 66 km from Phnom Penh, the country's capital.
