Just like how realization came to the prodigal son as he ate alongside pigs, we sometimes need to hit our lowest points first before our eyes can be opened to the gravity of our wrongfulness.
Pope Francis invited the wounded and oppressed Congolese people to give Christ a chance to heal their hearts by handing their past over to him, along with all their fears and troubles.

The experience of forgiveness is best enjoyed when forgiveness is shown to those who hurt us, betray us and let us down.
Reflect, today, upon any lingering feelings of anger you experience. Address those feelings by the free and total choice to forgive the person with whom you are angry.
Let us pray that we may experience the sacrament of reconciliation with renewed depth, to taste the forgiveness and infinite mercy of God. And let us pray that God may give his Church merciful priests and not torturers.
