Pope Leo XIV has appointed Maria Montserrat Alvarado, President and Chief Operating Officer of EWTN News, as the new prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication, according to Vatican News.

In a move reflecting his thoughtful leadership, Pope Leo XIV has decided that the Heads and Members of the Roman Curia will temporarily remain in their current roles until further notice.

The Holy Father named Cardinal Stephen Chow Sau-yan, S.J., bishop of Hong Kong, China, for the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue and Cardinal Sebastian Francis, bishop of Penang, Malaysia, for Promoting Integral Human Development.

Pope Francis convened the two-day meeting with the Cardinals to focus on the reform of the curia and missionary outreach.

Since becoming pope, Francis has worked to reform the Roman Curia, seeking to change its culture and redesign its structure.
