Pope Leo to Undergo Surgery for Early-Stage Lung Nodule
Pope Leo XIV announced on October 11 that he will undergo surgery in the coming days to remove a localized nodule in his lung detected at an early stage during recent medical examinations.
Speaking to the faithful after the Angelus prayer at the Vatican, the Pope said his doctors recommended surgery and that he had decided to follow their advice.
“The doctors found a localized nodule in my lung. It was detected at a very early stage and is well localized,” he said, according to Vatican News, which published a working translation of his remarks in Italian.
“The operation is already scheduled for the coming days,” the Pope added.
He thanked the faithful for their spiritual closeness and asked for their prayers as he prepares for the procedure.
The announcement came during the Pope’s Sunday Angelus address on October 11, as he shared the findings of his recent medical examinations with those gathered at the Vatican.
