Pope Leo XIV Meets Hong Kong Cardinal in Vatican

This week, Pope Leo XIV met Jesuit Cardinal Stephen Chow Sau-yan, Bishop of Hong Kong, China, in the Vatican, reports Jesuits Global on September 3.
“A key meeting took place in the Vatican as Cardinal Stephen Chow, SJ, of Hong Kong, met with the newly elected Pope Leo XIV for the first time since his election. The main topic of their discussion was the current state of the Church in China.”
Cardinal Stephen shared his insights with the Pope on the complex relationship between China and the Vatican.
According to Jesuits Global, Pope Leo, who has experience in the country, affirmed his intention to continue the path of respectful dialogue set by his predecessor, Pope Francis.
The report also noted the significance of this meeting, as the Vatican continues to find ways to build peace and trust between the Holy See and the Church in China.
