Pope Leo XIV’s June intention: A prayer for global compassion

Pope Leo XIV has released his first monthly prayer intention for June, calling on the faithful to pray “that the world might grow in compassion.”
The message, shared in The Pope Video, marks the first time we hear the voice of the newly elected Pope, who began his pontificate on May 8, 2025.
In the video, the Holy Father invites each person to “find consolation in a personal relationship with Jesus, and from His Heart, learn to have compassion on the world.” June, traditionally dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, provides a fitting context for this reflection.
The video also includes an original prayer to the Sacred Heart, led by a woman’s voice, invoking Christ’s mercy, love, and closeness in daily life.
It concludes with a call to mission: to become instruments of compassion and consolation in a hurting world.
Filmed in the Church of the Holy Name of Jesus in Rome and the National Shrine of the Sacred Heart in Makati, Philippines, the video visually connects viewers to sacred spaces of devotion.
It also highlights the ongoing restoration of the famous Sacred Heart image by Pompeo Batoni in Rome.
This devotion continues a long line of papal reflections on the Sacred Heart. Notably, Pope Leo XIII consecrated all humanity to the Heart of Jesus in 1899.
More recently, Pope Francis emphasized this devotion as a response to modern indifference in his 2024 apostolic letter Dilexit nos.
The Pope Video is an initiative of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network and has reached over 247 million viewers since 2016, helping Catholics around the world unite in prayer and mission.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
