Pope Francis has planned an Apostolic Journey to Hungary from 28 to 30 April, according to the statement from the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Matteo Bruni, announced on Monday.

"Accepting the invitation of the civil and ecclesial Authorities, His Holiness Pope Francis will make an Apostolic Journey to Hungary from 28 to 30 April 2023, visiting the city of Budapest," the statement read.

The Papal visit to Hungary will mark his 41st journey abroad.

During a busy itinerary of three days in Budapest, Pope Francis plans to visit refugees, poor people, and children of Blessed László Batthyány-Strattmann Institute.

Blessed Hungarian physician László Batthyány-Strattmann owned a hospital specializing in surgery and ophthalmology. He gave the needy money, clothes, and medicine. He monitored patients' mental and bodily health. Before surgeries, he prayed for his job with them. He said that he operated, but God healed them, and he was only God's instrument. He was beatified on 23 March 2003 by Pope John Paul II.

As usual, Pope Francis will address officials, civil society, the foreign corps, young people, bishops, priests, deacons, religious persons, seminarians, pastoral workers, and academic and artistic figures.

On12 September 2021, on his way to Slovakia, the Pope stopped in Budapest to celebrate closing Mass for the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress.

According to worldometers.info, Hungary's population is about 9.5 million as of 2023, and about 37 per cent of the population is Catholic.

Local reports say nearly 1 million Ukrainian migrants have entered Hungary since the war began.
