The International Movement of Catholic Students (IMCS Pax Romana) welcomed the canonization of St. Pier Giorgio Frassati, one of its founding members, and St. Carlo Acutis, the first millennial saint, calling it “a family celebration.”

Pope Leo XIV canonized both saints at the Vatican on September 7, 2025.

“St. Pier Giorgio, a member of the Federazione Universitaria Cattolica Italiana (FUCI) and co-founder of Pax Romana IMCS, walked the same path we walk today: a young student, facing the struggles of study and friendship, yet choosing to live his faith in joy and solidarity with the poor. His motto Verso l’alto (‘Toward the heights’) continues to call us, as students across the world, to rise with courage, faith, and hope,” said William Nokrek, International President of IMCS Pax Romana, in a press note.

He added, “His example reminds us that holiness means solidarity, and solidarity means justice. This message is urgent for us today as Catholic students who are called to defend the dignity of the most vulnerable in our universities, communities, and societies.”

Nokrek, a Bangladeshi national and youth leader, also highlighted how St. Carlo Acutis reminds Catholic students that holiness is alive here and now: “With his passion for the Eucharist and his creativity in the digital world, he shows us how faith can be shared with new energy and new tools. Together, Pier Giorgio and Carlo are concrete examples for students and young people of what it means to follow Christ in ordinary life.”

As an international movement, IMCS Pax Romana reaffirmed that sainthood is rooted in daily life: in study, in prayer, in friendship, in service, and in solidarity with the marginalized.

On this historic day, the movement renewed its commitment to form Catholic students as agents of dialogue, justice, and peace. “May St. Pier Giorgio Frassati and St. Carlo Acutis walk with us and inspire us verso l’alto, toward the heights of faith, hope, and love,” Nokrek concluded.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
