India: Church organizes three-day Faith Program for children in riot-Hit Manipur

The Catholic School Lamka Board successfully organized a three-day “Pilgrims of Hope” program from October 3 to 5 at Good Shepherd Parish, Lamka, in Churachandpur District, Manipur. The event brought together around 600 Catechism students from eight Catholic schools serving the Kuki-Zo community.

Catholic School Lamka Board, which was created in 2023 after violence in Manipur by Kuki-Zo Priests, looks after the Catholic Schools in Churachanpur District of Manipur.

The program featured a range of faith-based activities, including Bible writing and quiz contests, Bible skit performances, and a painting competition. These events aimed to deepen the children’s understanding of the faith while fostering unity and joy among young Catholics from the district.

The three-day celebration was coordinated by Fr. Paul Lelen and Sr. Lucia, Principal of St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Tuibuang, whose guidance and dedication ensured the program’s success. The event was further graced by the presence of Emeritus Dominic Lumon of Imphal, and Nu Nianthianhoi, DFO of Churachandpur, along with priests and religious serving in nearby parishes.

The celebration concluded with a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Archbishop Lumon, during which 55 children received their First Holy Communion and 43 received the Sacrament of Confirmation, marking a significant milestone in their journey of faith.

In his homily, Archbishop Lumon emphasized that faith must be lived through action, reminding the faithful that “faith without love and compassion for the poor is empty.” He urged everyone to look around, serve, and love others, for through service, he said, believers draw closer to God.

The Archbishop also underlined the importance of daily Bible reading, noting that “to know the Bible is to know God; without it, we cannot truly understand His message.”

Speaking on the Sacrament of Reconciliation, he reminded participants that “even priests, bishops, nuns, and cardinals go for confession. Since we encounter sin daily, we must take confession seriously, for it purifies our hearts and brings us closer to God.”

Concluding his message, Archbishop Lumon affirmed that the Sacrament of Confirmation strengthens our Catholic identity, reminding the faithful that the Church is a community of communion, united in faith, hope, and love.

The event was voluntarily managed by the Churachandpur District Catholic Youth Organization, with live coverage provided by Radio Veritas Asia Zo Service, the regional service of Radio Veritas Asia.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
