India: Telangana churches unite at TFC annual meet

The Telangana Federation of Churches (TFC) convened its annual general body meeting at the Hyderabad Archdiocesan Social Service Society (HASSS) office in Secunderabad, south India, on June 3.

The meeting was presided over by Cardinal Poola Anthony, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Hyderabad and president of TFC.

In his inaugural address, he urged all churches to foster concrete cooperation and collaboration for the welfare of the Christian community.

As many as 35 participants—including members, representatives, and invitees—attended the gathering. The session commenced with a prayer for Christian unity led by Father Raju Alex, executive secretary of TFC.

Special prayers were offered for the repose of the soul of Pope Francis and the fruitful ministry of the newly elected Pope Leo XIV.

A minute of silence was observed in memory of Pastor Praveen Pagadala, who passed away in a tragic accident. This tribute was led by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Khammam, Sagili Prakash.

Key discussions focused on planning a celebration of Indian Christian Day on July 3 and commemorating the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea.

The members also resolved to initiate the recitation of the Nicene Creed across all churches.

Father Kondaveeti Anthaiah, secretary of TFC, provided updates on the progress of forming District Action Committees.

Emphasizing the importance of youth formation and training, Father Raju Alex made it a point to establish dedicated working groups for enhanced effectiveness.

Sri Deepak John, chairman of the Christian Minority Finance Corporation, briefed the gathering on various financial schemes available to the Christian community and encouraged the churches to make full use of these resources.

In his concluding remarks, Paothang Haokip, bishop of Good Shepherd Church, commended TFC’s action-oriented initiatives and urged all members to continue working collaboratively for the betterment of the Christian community.
